Who is Hygeia?
Hygeia is the ancient Greek goddess of good health, cleanliness, and the prevention of sickness. Her name is the origin of the modern word "hygiene". She is the daughter of Asclepias, the Greek god of medicine. Unlike her father, who focused on curing active diseases, Hygeia represented preserving health and preventing illness. She is usually shown as a young woman feeding or holding a large serpent, which was a symbol of healing and renewal.
Who is Aegle?
Aegle is the ancient Greek goddess of radiant good health. Her name means "brightness" and she was the most beautiful of the Hesperides or nymphs which tended to the garden in which grew the trees of Hera which bear the golden apples. She was an attendant of her father, the medicine-god Asclepias and had three sisters, Panakeia meaning "all-cure", Iaso meaning "remedy" and Hygeia meaning good-health.
